Nindigully

The Milky Way

Another great pub in the middle of nowhere. Situated 45km southeast of St George. Nindigully or “the Gully” as it’s locally known. is pretty much 4 houses and a pub on  a riverbank. ‘The Gully” is Queenslands oldest hotel located in it’s original condition and position on the banks of the Moonie river. The pub licence was issued in 1864 after operating as a shearers accommodation for Nidigully Station. From the late 1800s the Nindigully Pub was a Cobb and Co coach change over station.

Most of the pubs in country Qld allow free camping as long as you have a drink at the bar. What great marketing idea. Every afternoon at least 50 vans turn up go for a few drinks some have meals and the place is empty again by 10 am until the next lot start rolling in. We were one of a few who stayed longer than one night. They have a great set up here at Nindigully with live music at weekends, a massive beer garden, open fire and happy hour 4.30-5.30pm. The pub interior is decorated with memorabillia, one wall with all different hats and there are notes pinned all over the ceiling. Nindigully is the home of the famous “Road Train” burger which feeds 4 people. It’s a 1.2kg burger and sides. They also do Mega Burgers which you have to order 3 days in advance because they are served on specially made novelty shaped bread roll from a local baker in St George. The biggest burger is “The Real Big Mack” which is 25kg beef burger which is over 5 ft long and serves a whole bus for a mere $600!

A bit warmer here than Girraween and Stanthorpe actually got into a pair of shorts.

Simon took a great picture of the ‘Milky Way’ no light pollution here.
