Went to ‘The Tip’ today and no I am not talking
about a rubbish tip, the most northern point of Cape York and Australia is
referred to as ‘The Tip’. Stopped off at the ‘Croc Tent’ which is a canvas tent
shop 17kms from ‘The Tip’ with all the Cape York souvenir merchandise for sale.
They have heaps of information on road conditions etc. We were advised to drop
the caravan off before driving to the end so we went to Somerset Bush camp and
dropped the caravan and then headed off.
It was low tide when we got there which meant we could walk
along the beach and then wade through ankle deep water to the rocks. I was
still nervous of crocs as we had heaps of mangroves to our right and open water
to our left. Needless to say I got across it very quickly. We then had to climb
over a few rocks to get the famous sign. Took the traditional photos and then
sat around watching turtles swim past. It was incredibly windy a very exposed
site. We then climbed the rocks and came back over the top which is quite a
climb to get back to the car.
We both felt proud that we accomplished what we had set out
to do with zero experience of caravanning or off roading. One major bucket list
item ticked off. Chuffed.
